Assisted Living may be more affordable than you think. We at Choice Senior Services are out in the community all the time; helping to educate people about their living options and our senior housing referral service. On question that has come up a lot lately is the upfront expense is too high. While there are certain communities, most of which are Continuing Care Retirement Communities, that do require an initial “buy-in”. There are a few communities that are not CCRC’s that charge a larger down payment. For the most part, move-in fees are not as high as a typical CCRC. For most senior living communities, the initial move-in costs are limited to $300 to $3,000 dollars, most on the lower side. In fact, there are a number of retirement living and assisted living communities that are offering move-in specials where the fees are waived. Monthly costs depend on the type of housing you are interested in as well as the area of town you are looking at. The cost of retirement/independent housing options start around $1,600 per month, assisted living ranges from $2,800 to $3,500 per month plus care costs, memory care communities generally start around $4,000 per month.
There have been a number of communities offering $3,000 of incentives for new residents. With over 150 senior housing communities in Portland, Oregon area there may be one perfect for you. Call Choice Senior Services to speak with one of our Elder Care Advisors for more information about the senior housing options available to you, current discounts, and incentives available at Oregon senior housing facilities.
